Note from Sundara...We are in that in between season, where it is no longer really autumn, but it isn't actually winter yet either, it's just sort of brown and muddy. So I'm living vicariously through inspiration photos and wouldn't this just be like something out of a dream?

These colors are definitely winter blues and turquoises. They lack the in-your-face brightness of summer colors, instead they have a winter softness, bits of greys are weaved throughout and the blue hints towards navy and melds in with the turquoise here and there. And then there are the light bits of of snow. It's as dreamy as a winterscape, but without the frozen toes and melted bits of ice that get down your shirt.

"Trees of Ice" is available to order until 10am, pacific, Thursday, November 15. Yarn will ship the week after next.

    The Winter Amaryllis aran merino

Note from Sundara...every year around this time or maybe a little closer to December, I regret not growing an amaryllis from a bulb, because it must be so gratifying. So much more gratifying than buying one already in bloom. But once again, I missed my chance and have to make do. Since I dye yarn, we can all make up for a missed opportunity with yarn inspired by a particularly spectacular amaryllis.

This aran merino is, of course, soft and squishy, but dark and deep and rich magenta-purple, although you really can't call it magenta-purple, because those two words make you think of bright colors, and this is definitely not bright. It's somewhere between magenta, purple, red-violet and a whole bunch of shades in between, with both dark bits and light bits and I really think it would make a gorgeous sweater, if you are so inclined.

"The Winter Amaryllis" is available to order until 10am, pacific, Wednesday, November 14. Yarn will ship the week after Thanksgiving.

Note from Sundara...I came across this photo the other day and gave a little squeal because the caption revealed that the lake is Lake Crescent, which just happens to be a lake on the Olympic Peninsula just a ways from where I live, that, on hot summer days, we take big floaty inner-tubes out to and float around with beverages while the kids splash about and then we grill and eat a whole bunch and then float around some more. It's basically the greatest way you could spend a hot summer day.

And so while it may be November and the only people who might truly be excited about this color are me and my knitter sister-in-law who knows the utter bliss of lake days, it does happen to be a gorgeous color. It's an indigo-violet that can't decide if it is indigo or violet, being somewhere between the two colors, and then streaking through it are shades of dusty dawn rose-pink. And then both those colors have shades darker and shades lighter and then bits where they merge together to create something in-between. It's divine.

"Lady of the Lake" is available to order until 10am, pacific, Saturday, November 10. Yarn will ship later next week.

Note from Sundara...I've dyed a few special requests from lovely customers who want to knit themselves Christmas projects, which got me thinking that I've never knit myself anything specifically Christmas-y and I've always been jealous of this bright red scarf my mom wears every December that always looks so festive and merry.

So while I may not actually get to wear this until next Christmas because I'm a slow knitter, I decided to start "Waiting For Rain" by Sylvia McFadden out of a beautiful bright red yarn. Extra Fine Fingering Merino is my new favorite shawl yarn, as it is sproingy and soft, so that was an easy choice of yarn bases (you'll need 2 skeins for this specific project). Cranberries seemed like an obvious choice for color inspiration and so here we are.

The yarn is every shade of red you can imagine while still seemingly being somewhat of a solid, so the lace will pop with brightness, but won't be overshadowed with variegation and the garter sections should be subtlety shaded and not at all boring. So if you'd like to knit yourself something for the holiday, or maybe next December (if you are slow like me, but like to make plans...), here's the yarn!

"Captivating Cranberry" is available to order until 10am, pacific, Friday, November 9. Yarn will ship next week.

Note from Sundara...I choose this inspiration photo because it looks like someone took a palette knife of blue and violet oil paint and smeared it across the sky. Which may not sound all that enticing unless you are one of those people that secretly hordes art supplies, then it's like the best thing ever. And I imagine there are more than a few of us who horde both yarn and art supplies. Or at least can understand the urge.

As for the color. I kept the black out of the color and stuck with the indigos and violets. The skeins of yarn look like someone took a palette knife and smeared the colors through the strands of yarn and it is divine. I should think it will knit up just as divine, with the added bonus of being soft, squishy, and bouncy, because it is DK merino.

"Chimera of Clouds" is available to order until Thursday, November 8 at 10am, pacific. Yarn will ship next week.

Note from Sundara...a lovely customer sent me a photo of some flowers she grew this summer with a request for me to dye some aran silky merino for her, because, despite them being summer flowers, she felt the color lent itself particularly well to a winter shawl. I agreed and found the lighter shades of this photo to be pretty close to what she was wanting. Hopefully.

It's a dark magenta-y color that could almost be considered wine. Maybe more of a sangria color, but it definitely goes pink rather than burgundy, but it has that same depth and richness of wine. It's gorgeous and if I'd dyed more, I might keep some for myself. But because there is only one batch available, I'll be generous and let you all have it.

Light in the Dark fingering merino

Note from Sundara...some of you may remember this inspiration photo from a few weeks ago when I dyed what I then called "the prettiest color I've dyed all year." That color was in DK merino and I've been curious to see how the color would look in fingering merino.

Fingering Merino is my yarn base that takes color with the absolute most variegation, so it always lends itself to the most interesting colors. Since "Light in the Dark" was a combination of disparate colors, I wanted to see how the color would be with a higher degree of variegation. The answer? Fascinating. Also, very pretty and very diverse.

The color is a practical smorgasbord of hues from the inspiration photo and each skein is absolutely unique. Consider the skein I photographed a loose representation of the color and while I'd encourage you to get two skeins and alternate those skeins when you knit for the most diverse color in your project, if you aren't up for that, limit yourself to one skein, because if you get more than one skein, they won't match all that well. Consider yourself warned!

Note from Sundara...Back when I originally dyed this Quoth the Raven color in fingering, I thought it might be a lovely sweater color and wanted to try it out in aran merino. But then I thought I should save it for Halloween, since anything Poe-related makes me think of All Hallow's Eve. But, most importantly, this color won't scream HALLOWEEN if you do knit yourself soma sweater, so you can wear it whenever you want. That's my favorite way to do holiday-inspired yarn.

The color is still black, darker than what is shown in the yarn photo. I had to lighten the photo so you could see the color detail. And the black has both purple and blue undertones. It shifts around like the light on those feathers. It's just lovely.

Note from Sundara...I'm so happy with this color because it is clearly two distinct colors, teal and navy, but they are so close together in depth and richness, that you could easily knit anything with some sort of stitch pattern and the colors would just blend together seamlessly to create that complex beauty we all love about hand-dyed yarn. And it's got that lovely sheen of silk to shimmer and glow that we all love. Divine!

Note from Sundara...The weather here in the PNW has turned from autumn to what should rightly be called the rainy, grey, and muddy season, or what I usually think of as "winter". To ring in cold, my mother got whipped cream and some caramel sauce and we've been making all sorts of delicious drinks, which of course, made me want some caramel inspired yarn. So here we are.

I don't think the beverages in this inspiration photo are actually caramel macchiatos, but I'm not going to split hairs over it. They are lovely, the yarn is a beautiful blend of mocha, coffee, and caramel and it's all divine. And this DK merino is super snuggly for whatever winter weather you happen to have.

Note from Sundara...these sorts of flower photos, while always delicious for color inspiration, are always somewhat hard to name, but as I sat here this morning, it all came together in what seemed like a bit of fate and if you'll indulge me my little story, you might find it charming. If you don't feel like reading my nattering, skip ahead to the color description!

My mother and daughter are attending a "Witches Tea" this weekend and I'll have several hours to myself. Plotting what I should do with my unexpected free time, I thought I'd re-read Pride and Prejudice for the umpteenth time. So when trying to name this color, I perused Jane Austen quotes for inspiration. Of course, my favorite one, "You have bewitched me, body and should" came up. So romantic! And so the word bewitched, along with the Witches Tea seemed to all come together and I realized the shape of this flower looks a bit like a witches hat and so here we are. Probably not as prosaic as it was in my head, but when you've named as much yarn as I have, you tend to make more out of these silly little coincidences.

But the color! Oh, it is glorious. Plums, violets and all ranges shades of purples overlayed with the deep and rich hues of darkness and shadows that make this such a striking color.

Please note before you purchase! The mill sent me skeins that are 115 grams instead of the usual 100 grams.  This means the yarn has an extra 50 yards per skein - 388 yards instead of the usual 338. I've priced it accordingly, it's no cheaper or more expensive than the usual price per yard. It's perfect if you have a project that calls for a little more yardage than the usual or if you just don't want to weave in as many ends!

Save on Shipping: If you think you'll be ordering yarn more than once in the next 30 days or so, you may have me hold and combine all your orders to save shipping costs. Include "Hold and combine shipping" in the NOTES section of checkout (not paypal notes). When I mail all your orders in about 4 weeks, I'll refund you the overage you paid for shipping.

SPORT MERINO TWO is 338 yards and 100 grams of 100% super wash merino.
It knits up delightfully at 5-6 stitches per inch on US 3-5/3.25-3.75mm needles.
Gently hand was in tepid water for project longevity. Orders for 2 or more skeins will be matched as closely as possible.

Pedaling through Autumn DK silky cashmere - 2 skeins left!

Note from Sundara...I know it is technically still summer, but I'm already fantasizing about autumn. Probably because it's too hot and I'm ready for cooler weather. And autumn neutrals. I love the neutrals of autumn.

So today is a classic brown autumn neutral, full of all those fun brown colors: chocolate, mocha, coffee, ginger, caramel. You can't say brown isn't delicious.

    Blackened Fig DK merino

Note from Sundara...Fig seasons has finally found its way to the pacific northwest and I am thrilled, as figs are my absolute favorite fruit. Usually I eat them straight off the tree, but I was looking at some recipes for grilled figs and thought I'd dye some yarn to go with it. Of course, actual grilled figs aren't all that pretty, so I'm taking some artistic liberty here.

This figgy yarn is full of plums and purples and overlaid with a charred blackened deliciousness that I imagine will knit up into some lovely fall and winter sweaters.

    Just one batch available.

Note from Sundara...I dyed this color a few weeks ago and a bunch of you asked for it in a fingering weight yarn...here it is and here is what I originally said about the color...

Firstly, I'll admit I don't know enough about horses to know if this horse is actually a stallion. But I liked the name, so here we are.

Secondly, this is a gorgeous chesnut-espresso-chocolate brown that is more solid than variegated and will work amazingly well for any sweater or other project with a strong stitch pattern. And it's a gorgeous neutral. Personally, if I had the time, I'd knit a sweater, but I will, of course, leave the choice to you.

Note from Sundara...The weather here is starting to get hot and I admit I'm one of those delicate flowers who can't take the heat. So I'm fantasizing about spring.

And what could be better than the Eiffel Tower and cherry blossoms? This concoction of grey and pink is made even more delightful because the pink left little speckles through out the skeins. It's super pretty and should add a nice little oomph to whatever you knit this into.

Purple Mountain Majesty extra fine fingering merino

Note from Sundara...I hadn't intended to dye anything patriotic this week, but I liked this photo and dyed the yarn over the weekend. When I went to name it this morning, how could I not give it this name? It's always nice to remember that there is much to love about this country.

Interestingly, this color is like a blue-grey version of Still Life with Ranunculus. It's just got blue-grey instead of the greens. This particular skein didn't end up showing some of the darker threads of magenta running through, but it has them and, when I paired it with the Still Life with Ranunculus skeins I have, they looked amazing together. I'm thinking of just knitting a simple garter stitch triangular shawl and alternating one skein of this and one skein of Ranunculus. It should be a phenomenal medley of color.

So if you have some of the Ranunculus extra fine fingering merino, you might consider getting a skein of this and pairing the colors in a project.

Was a little low on this yarn, so not as much available as usual. Hopefully it won't sell out too fast!
