Note From Sundara...I just finished an audiobook about a southern belle named Daisy who escaped from a bad marriage and had to find what made her happy and then found love again. You're probably wondering what this has to do with yarn and well, she wore a lot of pink and had a love of frilly flowers. Hear me out on this.

In what can only be the universe trying to tell me something, I then saw the only woman I know who could be considered a southern belle, a woman I've known since I was five and is now the grandmother of my daughter's friends. She was wearing the most chic pink scarf I've seen in a long time. It was one of those Anthropologie numbers and I decided that maybe I, and possibly all of us, needed a little pink southern belle in our life. And so this yarn got dyed.

I'll admit, there is nothing seasonal about this. But on my local southern belle, it looked fabulous with a black puffer vest, so consider it versatile and a four season color. It's a range of creams to medium almost bright pinks and very variegated, so it will give you some pop without being overwhelming.

"The Southern Belle" is available to order until 10am, pacific, Saturday, September 15th. yarn will ship week after next.

Note from Sundara...Our local weather guy has told us summer is officially over and I've been thinking about sweaters. Then I got my first order of aran merino from the mill in months and months and well, I realize it seems a little silly to use a sweater for color inspiration for yarn, but isn't this just the best red sweater and don't you sort of want to cast-on for it right now?

Unfortunately, this sweater is from a fashion blog (here, scroll WAY down to see a few more shots of it), so we can't all cast-on right now. But I'm sure there is something similar out there in Ravelry or the more industrious of you will go figure out how to design one of these yourself.

The actual red of this yarn is a little more subdued than the yarn photo, but a tad brighter than the sweater photo. At least on my monitor. It's a gorgeous true red, with brighter and darker bits to add interest. I thought it perfect for fall and winter sweaters, whatever pattern you pick.

Note from Sundara...I've been wanting to dye one of these Tuscan inspired colors in fingering silky merino for ages, but as I've mentioned a few times, green is a color that doesn't always work well on fingering silky merino. So the color has alluded me. But yesterday, I struck green gold! And I was so excited I couldn't even wait until Monday to show you. I'll have to skip Monday's Daily Dream or something because you just needed to see this ASAP.

The yarn photo doesn't do this green justice. It's that fall, fading leaves with glints of gold, foggy, valley and hills in the distance green. But also the green you'd see while sitting in a Tuscan villa, sipping wine, eating cheese, probably after stuffing yourself with glorious pasta and sitting in the sun. It's the perfect green.

Since it's the weekend, and I don't normally do Daily Dreams on the weekend, I'll give you until Monday, September 10, 10am, pacific, to order as much as you want of "The Tuscan Hills". Yarn will ship the week of September 14th.

Note from Sundara...The two most "controversial" colors, if you will, seem to be yellow and purple. Everyone has strong feelings about these colors - you either love them or you hate them. Although I'm sure there are a few of you out there who prove me wrong on this. Because of this, I often try to come up with a purple or yellow that will appeal to even those who believe they hate those colors and I'm hoping this particular purple is one of those purples.

It's a dark, misty, plumish, grayish sort of purple, with lots of black and grey throughout to make it not so PURPLE! It'll be great for fall and winter sweaters or shawls or scarves or hats or whatever moves you, really. And if you are one of those people who love purple, but have someone in your life who hates purple, this might be the yarn that, while maybe not convincing them to love purple, but at least warms them towards it.

"The Silhouette" is available to order until 10am, pacific, Saturday, September 8th. Yarn will ship very late next week or early the week after that.

Please note before you purchase! The mill sent me skeins that are 115 grams instead of the usual 100 grams.  This means the yarn has an extra 50 yards per skein - 388 yards instead of the usual 338. I've priced it accordingly, it's no cheaper or more expensive than the usual price per yard. It's perfect if you have a project that calls for a little more yardage than the usual or if you just don't want to weave in as many ends!

Note from Sundara...It's always a good daily dream when I pull the yarn out of the pot and exclaim "Oh, that is so pretty!", which is exactly what happened with today's yarn. It's so pretty!

It's the moon lighting up forest green and midnight blue combined with the black of night. Gorgeous, gorgeous! Knit yourself a sweater or a shawl or just stash some away for later. It's just that pretty.

Note from Sundara...I've been wanting to dye a solidish green yarn in the forest-pine-juniper-basil-ish vein and this inspiration caught my eye, as something that wasn't so stereotypically forest even though the color is pretty foresty green.

This is, of course, "solid" in as much as hand-dyed yarn can ever be solid. It's full of the nuances and subtleties that make hand-dyed yarn so much more interesting, both to knit with and in the finished product, and should work for whatever complicated stitch pattern you might desire. I will say that this particular skein isn't quite as "solid" as the others, so if you get some, you should expect something a bit more solid than this.

Please note before you purchase! The mill sent me skeins that are 115 grams instead of the usual 100 grams.  This means the yarn has an extra 50 yards per skein - 388 yards instead of the usual 338. Note from Sundara...This color takes a three way combo of neutrals and somehow turns it into something that seems so much more than what you might think of when you envision neutral. It's one of the more interesting colors I've dyed lately and watching the color changes as they make their way through the strands should make for entertaining knitting.

It's a combination of slate blues, espresso and walnut browns, and a bit of charcoal grey veering into midnight here and there. If you have a stockinette sweater pattern you've been thinking of knitting, this would make the miles and miles of mindless knitting much more enticing.

Note from Sundara...Fig seasons has finally found its way to the pacific northwest and I am thrilled, as figs are my absolute favorite fruit. Usually I eat them straight off the tree, but I was looking at some recipes for grilled figs and thought I'd dye some yarn to go with it. Of course, actual grilled figs aren't all that pretty, so I'm taking some artistic liberty here.

This figgy yarn is full of plums and purples and overlaid with a charred blackened deliciousness that I imagine will knit up into some lovely fall and winter sweaters.

Note from Sundara...I was too curious to see how yesterday's Daily Dream color would look in fingering silky merino, so I dyed some up for today rather than wait longer.

It's gorgeous. Black that veers into black-purple or black-indigo, depending on what sort of light you are looking at the yarn in. When it dried, it wasn't quite as dark as I wanted, so I may give it another coat of color, so if you order, expect it to be a bit darker, blacker, and richer.

The color is solid enough that it would look amazing as lace, if that's what you want to knit, but pretty much anything will be lovely, with the shimmer and softness of the silk.

If you ordered Quoth the Raven in extra fine fingering merino (or have any outstanding order) and you order this fingering silky merino, I'll combine your orders and refund you for the overage so you don't pay more for shipping.

Note from Sundara...a lovely customer asked me to dye some fingering merino in black - black with purple- black with blue. And since I love anything that references The Raven and Poe, here we are.

This is hopefully exactly what she had in mind. It's black, darker than what is shown in the yarn photo. I had to lighten the photo so you could see the color detail. And the black has both purple and blue undertones. It shifts around like the light on those feathers. It's just lovely.

Actually, so lovely I sort of want to dye some in fingering silky merino because the silk would make it shimmer and shine. Email me if you would get yourself some of this color in fingering silky merino and if there are enough of you, it can be one of next week's Daily Dreams.

Note from Sundara...I dyed this color a few weeks ago and a bunch of you asked for it in a fingering weight yarn...here it is and here is what I originally said about the color...

Firstly, I'll admit I don't know enough about horses to know if this horse is actually a stallion. But I liked the name, so here we are.

Secondly, this is a gorgeous chesnut-espresso-chocolate brown that is more solid than variegated and will work amazingly well for any sweater or other project with a strong stitch pattern. And it's a gorgeous neutral. Personally, if I had the time, I'd knit a sweater, but I will, of course, leave the choice to you.

Note from Sundara...I hadn't intended to dye anything patriotic this week, but I liked this photo and dyed the yarn over the weekend. When I went to name it this morning, how could I not give it this name? It's always nice to remember that there is much to love about this country.

Interestingly, this color is like a blue-grey version of Still Life with Ranunculus. It's just got blue-grey instead of the greens. This particular skein didn't end up showing some of the darker threads of magenta running through, but it has them and, when I paired it with the Still Life with Ranunculus skeins I have, they looked amazing together. I'm thinking of just knitting a simple garter stitch triangular shawl and alternating one skein of this and one skein of Ranunculus. It should be a phenomenal medley of color.

So if you have some of the Ranunculus extra fine fingering merino, you might consider getting a skein of this and pairing the colors in a project.

Was a little low on this yarn, so not as much available as usual. Hopefully it won't sell out too fast!

Note from Sundara...one of you lovely knitters requested a "manly sort of color" out of this new yarn base so she could knit her husband a pair of socks. She's using two skeins, one per sock. In case you also have the gumption to knit the man in your life a pair of socks. Or possibly a hat, fingerless mitts, maybe a cowl. Or maybe you just love forest green for yourself. Then definitely indulge.

This has a range of mysterious forest greens, along with hints of grey and charcoal. And it is soft, with a bit of toughness from the nylon. Hopefully perfect for my lovely knitter and her husband!

    Just a few batches available.

Note from Sundara...I thought I'd try something different for today's inspiration and use one of my favorite paintings of all time: Georgia O'Keefe's Oriental Poppies.

Unfortunately, the digital camera wasn't able to capture the full glory and color nuance of this yarn. It's about as vibrant and varied as Georgia's painting, so if you'd like to knit something akin to how those poppies might look in wool, this is your yarn.

Note from Sundara...Sometimes I feel like I'm in a rut, photo-wise, when it comes to color inspiration. I know I pick a lot of sunsets and mist photos, but I really just couldn't pass this one by. All those pinks coming together over the blue sky and water at twilight suckered me in and for some reason, I felt like having a pair of socks out of these colors would add a little excitement to my day. It would be like wearing a pair of red boots or ruby slippers, just more comfortable and obviously more pink than red.

Hello, Sunshine Italian fingering merino cashmere
Hello, Sunshine Italian fingering merino cashmere

Note from Sundara...This is my second time dyeing my new Italian fingering merino cashmere yarn base and I have to tell you one of the best things about this yarn is that the cashmere the mill uses is "white cashmere", which means I can dye this yarn in light colors. My old fingering merino cashmere used some sort of non-pure-white cashmere, so the base color of the yarn was a bit grey. Not enough to bother medium or darker colors, but enough that I could never dye truly light colors without them looking dirty.

So of course, I am taking full advantage of this and dyed a beautiful light and airy lemony buttercream yellow. It's delicious and full of spring and sunshine. And all of you fingering merino cashmere lovers will finally have a chance to knit a lighter colored product. Yay for all of us!

Dashing Daffodil - 2 skeins left!

Just 2 Dk silky cashmere and 1 fingering silky yak left!

Note from Sundara...I dearly love daffodils. I love everything about them. I love that they are a sign that spring is truly here and I've survived another winter. I love the way they smell, even if it is a bit odd compared to other flowers. And the color!   I could go on and on.

These skeins are not a timid yellow. They are bold and bright and most certainly a statement. It's a warm yellow with lighter bits and warmer bits and brighter bits and softer bits. It's the perfect antidote for anyone ready to take a break from icy, cool greys and darks of winter. And if you might want a little yellow in your life, but are a little scared of THIS MUCH yellow, knit something with lace. The openness of the stitches will diffuse the color and take the edge off the boldness.

Assuming that you'd want this for smaller projects, I dyed "Dashing Daffodil" in lace silky merino, fingering silky yak, petite fingering silky, and DK silky cashmere to meet a variety of fiber and gauge needs. Just one batch of each yarn base and will ship earlier next week.

Note from Sundara...this is a lovely and dark purple-indigo-plum-aubergine-y color with lighter bits here and there that reveal the blue and brown undertones that make up this barrage of purple. And this yak is just amazing. I'm not sure how I've lived this long without having yak yarn in my life. So if you are a lover of dark or purple and you haven't yet experienced yak, I hope you'll get a skein or two.
